What Is the Data Expo?
The data expo is the final project in the fall semester for the Gov School Statistics Class. Students design and execute experiments which allow them to collect data on something that they are passionate about. Projects have include a wide range of topics such as taste testing, solving puzzles, or even changing a baby’s diaper while blindfolded!
Above: Students at this station did a blind taste test and had to guess which cookie was the Oreo and which one was the “knock-off” brand.

The Main Event
Students arrived early to prepare an array of whimsical stations and activities aimed at collecting data. Everyone participated in activities ranging from word unscrambling to fruit loop taste testing. Even the teachers got in on the fun. We debated the age old question: Are there more doors or wheels in the world? Some students discovered that they were not smarter than a chimpanzee, and others learned how to use chopsticks for the first time.
Right - Using chopsticks, students see how fast they can lift Lifesavers into a cup. They got thirty seconds to place as many in the cup as possible.

Wrapping Up
The final step of this final was a comprehensive presentation in order to share the collected data. Students analyzed their data and organized it into graphs and tables. Each group then designed and printed a poster to display. Everyone had a chance to share their findings with the class.
Left - Students at “Diaper Disaster” attempt to change babies’ diapers while blindfolded. The lowest time record was 10.5 seconds!
